David Engen's Project

Sportsman 2+2

90/95 Percent Finished

Project Summary

I started this project Feb 1994 with the acquisition of the Wag Aero Sportsman 2+2 plans and the fuselage kit of basic materials. By 1996 the primary fuselage structure, landing gear and tail group was finished. By 2000 the interior fuselage panels, floor boards, rudder pedal system were complete and the wings were started. By 2002 the engine (over-hauled Lycoming O-320, 150 hp) was acquired and front seats installed. By 2004 the engine, prop and wings were initially fitted on the fuselage. The "Leading Edge" exhaust system was acquired/installed in hopes of increasing power to 160 hp. Currently the cowling, instrument panel, rear seat, initial engine connections have been made and I am working on the fabric of the interior. I've also modified the fuel vent system with a cross-over under the wing system to prevent rain/debris from entering the vent lines. The bungee system has been replaced with the new die coil spring system. Major work yet to be finished are inspections, sand-blasting/painting,covering the fuselage, priming/covering the wings, electrical wiring, radio installation & all the little stuff.
